General Purpose of the job:
The Buyer/Planner has the primary responsibility of ensuring material availability to support the Project Management/Production schedules. Other responsibilities include managing inventory levels, supporting material revisions, interacting/coordinating with suppliers on a variety of topics, and supporting other business functions as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 

  • Maintain the integrity of MRP planning parameters (costing, lead times, safety stock etc).

  • Place purchase orders with suppliers for the procurement of production material as required by MRP and production schedule.

  • Monitor status of open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of all materials, including timely resolution, communication and mitigation of future potential problems.

  • Expedite or defer orders as required based on schedule.

  • Coordinate material flows throughout BOM changes, obsolescence, and the introduction of new suppliers or materials due to new product development.

  • Manage and resolve issues regarding PO to invoice discrepancies, returns, and quality problems with suppliers.

  • Communicate with Suppliers, both via phone and email, to ensure on time delivery and lead time accuracy.

  • Generate and issue reports to Direct Manager and Project Managers to advise of deviations in delivery dates.

  • Timely and precise processing of purchase orders.

  • Any additional duties assigned by Manager.

Requirements:
 

  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in buyer/planner function required

  • Experience with NetSuite preferred

  • Sound time management skills, strong sense of urgency, and attention to detail

  • Excellent organization, communication, and follow up skills

  • Experience in production and inventory control

  • Experience working with machine shops, PCB fabrication, or similar experience preferred

  • Comfortable interacting with engineering groups; occasionally acting as the liaison between external vendors and internal designers

  • Knowledge of commonly used procurement concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
