Overview:
The Chemist will perform sample extractions according to documented methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). They will be responsible for routine extraction, chemical isolation, and sample clean-up using various techniques and maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized working environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform sample extractions using various techniques including blending, shaking, Soxhlet extraction, digestion, SPE, distillation/condensation, liquid-liquid partitioning, and chemical derivatization.
- Prepare reagents and analytical working standards according to current SOPs.
- Operate laboratory apparatus and equipment such as blenders, nitrogen- and roto-evaporators, shakers, pH meters, and centrifuges.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and coordinate maintenance and verification of general laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Notify supervisors of any deviations from established procedures and use appropriate documentation for changes.
- Complete extraction-related quality control (QC) checks and documentation according to protocols and SOPs.
- Perform observational results entry into the LIMS, including BRIX dilutions, moisture, and pH.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Chemistry or related science from a four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in laboratory settings, especially related to sample extractions and chemical analysis, is desirable.
- Chemist 1: 0-3 years of experience in laboratory setting
- Chemist 2: 3+ years of experience in laboratory setting
- Chemist 1: 0-3 years of experience in laboratory setting
- Industry experience with HPLC or GCMS
- Familiarity with laboratory apparatus such as pH meters, centrifuges, balances, vacuum pumps, water baths, freezers, and pipettes.
