At Kelly® Professional & Industrial, we’re seeking a Swiss Lathe Machinist to work for a premier optics manufacturer in West Henrietta, NY. With us, it’s all about finding the right opportunity for you!
Pay: $23.00 – $34.00/hr. (Depending on experience).
Schedule: Day Shift, Monday – Friday.
Summary: In this role, the Swiss Lathe Machinist will program and operate Tsugami Swiss lathes, along with CNC lathes and CNC mills, to manufacture precision prototype and production parts. The ideal candidate is highly experienced with Swiss machining, capable of working independently, and comfortable machining ultra-tight tolerances in a low-volume, high-mix environment.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate Tsugami Swiss lathes (core focus), CNC lathes, and CNC mills
- Machine prototype and production parts with minimal supervision
- Write and edit CNC programs using programming software (Mastercam, Partmaker)
- Analyze blueprints, job orders, and specifications to ensure correct dimensions and tolerances
- Manufacture parts to ultra-tight tolerances (as tight as ±0.0001″) and perform in-process and final inspection
- Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, depth of cut, and materials
- Design and build tools and fixtures as required
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make process corrections as needed
- Consult with Engineering and Management on job details, specifications, and improvements
- Assist in training and mentoring other machinists as needed
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and identify opportunities for equipment upgrades
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
This job might be an outstanding fit if you…
- Have 3+ years of experience as a Swiss Lathe Machinist (Tsugami Preferred)
- Have 1+ year of Swiss Lathe programming experience (Required)
- Have 5+ years of technical experience machining prototype parts using mills and lathes
- Have 1+ year of formal Technical Machinist training
- Are fluent in Tsugami Swiss lathe operation and maintenance
- Have CNC programming experience with Mastercam and/or Partmaker
- Can machine and inspect parts to tolerances of ±0.0001″
- Can read and interpret complex blueprints and sketches
- Are detail-oriented and able to work independently
