Position Summary

Kelly Government Solutions is seeking qualified Pharmacy Technicians to support Pharmacy Services at the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS). Pharmacy services are delivered in a state-of-the-art medical treatment facility, and all duties must be performed in accordance with nationally recognized pharmacy practice standards. The Pharmacy Technician will support licensed pharmacists in providing safe, accurate, and timely medication services to Veterans.

The standard of care shall meet or exceed national standards established by:

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
    OR

  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pharmacy Technicians shall perform duties consistent with their scope of practice and VA policies, including but not limited to:

Medication Preparation and Distribution

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications for inpatient and outpatient use

  • Accurately fill medication orders, including unit dose, bulk compounding, and sterile or non-sterile preparations as assigned

  • Label medications appropriately and ensure proper packaging and storage

Prescription Processing

  • Receive, review, and interpret medication orders under pharmacist supervision

  • Enter prescription and patient data into VA pharmacy information systems with a high degree of accuracy

  • Resolve basic prescription issues and refer clinical questions to pharmacists

Inventory and Supply Management

  • Maintain medication inventories, including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, and removing expired medications

  • Assist with controlled substance accountability in accordance with VA regulations

  • Maintain pharmacy automation systems (e.g., Pyxis or similar dispensing equipment)

Customer and Veteran Service

  • Provide courteous, professional service to Veterans, caregivers, and VA staff

  • Answer basic pharmacy-related questions and direct clinical inquiries to licensed pharmacists

  • Support a patient-centered care environment aligned with VA’s mission and values

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Adhere to all VA, federal, state, and facility-specific pharmacy regulations and policies

  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and VA privacy requirements

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and inspections as required

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Active national pharmacy technician certification, one of the following:

    • PTCB – Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

    • NHA – Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT)


  • Ability to pass all VA background and credentialing requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, clinic, or government healthcare setting

  • Experience with VA pharmacy systems or electronic health records

  • Knowledge of medication safety practices and sterile compounding (if applicable)

Work Environment

  • State-of-the-art VA medical facility

  • Collaborative interdisciplinary healthcare setting

  • May require standing, walking, lifting pharmacy supplies, and working shifts aligned with pharmacy operations
