Senior Electrical Engineer (Automation & Controls)

Location: Boise, ID (100% Onsite)
Job Type: Contract (12 months, strong potential for extension or conversion)
Pay Rate: $60–$70/hr


Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, build, and integration of automated production systems. This role will focus on electrical design, control panel development, system integration, and commissioning of automation equipment and production line stations.

This is a fast-paced, onsite environment where the ideal candidate will take ownership of projects from concept through build, debug, and handoff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and release electrical control panels, wiring diagrams, and power distribution systems

  • Integrate electrical systems across automated production lines and equipment

  • Collaborate with controls, mechanical, manufacturing, and safety teams to deliver integrated solutions

  • Support robot cell integration, including sensors, actuators, and field devices

  • Implement and validate safety systems (E-stops, interlocks, safety circuits, safety PLCs/relays)

  • Plan and execute commissioning, startup, and system debugging activities

  • Define electrical utility requirements (power, network, air) to support plant layout and installation

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, redlines, as-builts, test reports)

  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance during build and commissioning phases

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical design and automation systems

  • Strong experience with industrial control panels, wiring, and power distribution (AC/DC)

  • Hands-on experience with commissioning and troubleshooting automation equipment

  • Experience working with PLC-based systems and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc.)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment

  • Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with robotic systems (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or similar)

  • Knowledge of machine safety standards (ISO 13849, NFPA 70/79)

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar design tools

  • Experience with RFID or tracking systems

  • Background in manufacturing, semiconductor, or automation environments
