Senior Process Chemist
Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Senior Process Chemist for a 6-month contract position in St Louis, MO. This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced chemist who is passionate about developing, scaling, and commercializing advanced chemical processes and contributing to innovative pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Pay: $45-55/hour DOE
Schedule: Mon-Fri Onsite
Overview
The Client is an industry-focused organization dedicated to advancing pharmaceutical development through innovative chemical and manufacturing technologies. This position involves leading process development and scale-up activities for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), working cross-functionally with internal teams and external subject matter experts to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing processes.
The Senior Process Chemist will provide technical leadership in the development, optimization, and transfer of chemical processes from laboratory through manufacturing scale under GMP guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and scale-up of advanced API manufacturing processes using modern process chemistry techniques
- Serve as technical lead for process transfer to manufacturing scale under GMP conditions
- Identify and optimize efficient chemical transformations to produce target API molecules
- Collaborate with analytical chemists, process engineers, project managers, and external partners to support development activities
- Prepare, review, and maintain technical documentation including reports, specifications, batch records, and laboratory notebooks
- Support the preparation and submission of regulatory documentation, including Drug Master Files (DMFs)
- Stay current on emerging technologies, advanced manufacturing methods, and applicable federal regulations
Qualifications
- Strong background in organic and process chemistry with demonstrated experience in process development and scale-up
- Experience supporting GMP manufacturing, validation activities, and commercial technical transfers
- Experience with NMR, TLC, and LCMS
- Working knowledge of FDA Q7A Good Manufacturing Practice guidance for APIs
- Familiarity with analytical instrumentation, process analytical technology (PAT), and chemical engineering concepts
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional team environments
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Education Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or
- M.S. in Organic Chemistry with 5+ years of experience, or
- B.S. in Chemistry with 10+ years of directly related experience
