Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on scientific leader to serve as a Study Director / Senior Research Scientist for preclinical in vivo research studies.
This individual will act as the primary scientific and operational authority, leading study design, execution, and client interaction while ensuring the highest standards of data integrity and animal welfare.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on animal research environment and is comfortable stepping in to perform procedures and support study execution directly. Title may be flexible (e.g., Study Director, Senior Research Scientist, Principal Investigator) depending on experience and scope.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead scientific authority across animal research studies, overseeing design, execution, and reporting
- Provide hands-on support in study execution, including performing in vivo procedures when needed (especially in the absence of a veterinarian)
- Design and manage complex in vivo studies, particularly in large animal models (e.g., mini pig/pig)
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and quality of all study data
- Oversee adherence to animal welfare and applicable regulatory standards
- Operate and guide the use of research equipment (e.g., ultrasound, fluoroscopy, EKG)
- Collaborate directly with clients, providing scientific guidance and technical support
- Support business development efforts through client interaction and technical expertise
- Contribute to the growth and scalability of research operations (currently supporting ~200–400 animals)
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD, DVM, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline
- Extensive experience in in vivo research, with demonstrated study leadership
- Strong hands-on experience with surgical procedures and animal handling
- Experience working with large animal models is required (swine/mini pig strongly preferred)
- Proficiency operating imaging and monitoring equipment (ultrasound, fluoroscopy, EKG, etc.)
- Working knowledge of GLP principles (organization is not currently GLP-certified, but familiarity is preferred)
- Experience in client-facing roles, technical support, or technical sales strongly preferred
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface with both internal teams and external clients
What We’re Looking For:
- A highly hands-on leader who is willing to work alongside the team in a lab setting
- Strong scientific thinker with the ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot studies
- Someone comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving research environment
- A collaborative professional who can bridge science, operations, and client needs
Why Join Us:
- Opportunity to play a key leadership role in a growing and specialized research program
- High visibility with direct client interaction and impact on study outcomes
- Flexible title and scope based on experience
