Position Summary:
The R&D Engineer is responsible for the development, execution, and documentation of mechanical and electrical test methods supporting the project Design Verification (DV) program. This role focuses on test fixture design, test method development and debugging, execution of mechanical and tissue testing, and detailed data analysis to support design verification and root cause investigations. The engineer will work closely with the Project Engineering team to ensure all testing activities are completed on schedule and in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Job Responsibilities/ Requirements:
Test Development & Readiness
- Design and build mechanical and electrical test fixtures to support project testing, ensuring readiness ahead of DV start.
- Develop test methods including test setup, calibration, and data collection procedures.
- Debug, refine, and optimize test methods to ensure robust and repeatable performance prior to DV start.
- Prepare comprehensive test method documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Test Execution
- Execute approved project test methods, including both mechanical and tissue testing.
- Support mechanical testing activities required for Keen Max design verification.
- Operate and test using cold and hot tools as required by test protocols.
Data Analysis & Problem Solving
- Analyze test data to evaluate design performance against requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis for test failures or anomalies, working cross-functionally to identify corrective actions.
- Provide clear technical summaries and recommendations based on test results.
- Generate and maintain DV test reports and supporting documentation.
- Support project closeout documentation, ensuring completeness, traceability, and audit readiness.
- Provide additional engineering and testing services as needed.
- Collaborate with design, quality, and manufacturing partners to ensure alignment throughout the DV process.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience developing and executing test methods for product verification or validation.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electrical test fixtures.
- Strong understanding of data collection, analysis, and root cause methodologies.
- Experience working under Good Documentation Practices or in regulated development environments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet aggressive development timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with medical device design verification (DV) testing.
- Background in tissue testing or biomechanical testing.
- Familiarity with hot and cold tool testing environments.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools and structured problem-solving techniques.
