Job details

Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Field Service Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a growing industrial filtration and dust collection equipment manufacturer in Troy, Michigan.

Overview
Our client is a global manufacturer specializing in highly engineered industrial dust collection and filtration systems used across advanced manufacturing environments including automotive, aerospace, additive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food production, and industrial OEM applications. Unlike high-volume standardized equipment manufacturers, this organization designs customized systems tailored to each customer’s operation, creating a dynamic and technically engaging work environment.

This position is a blend of field service, customer support, equipment assembly, and hands-on troubleshooting. Technicians travel to customer sites throughout the U.S. to perform preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and technical support on industrial filtration systems. The team is seeking someone with strong mechanical aptitude, basic electrical troubleshooting ability, and a positive, self-driven attitude who enjoys variety and working independently.

Travel is estimated around 50%, primarily throughout the eastern United States, with occasional opportunities for travel to Canada, Mexico, and potentially Germany for training.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer facilities to perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and service support

  • Diagnose and repair basic mechanical and electrical issues involving motors, relays, sensors, valves, controls, and related equipment

  • Perform preventative maintenance and verify proper system operation, airflow, and equipment functionality

  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics

  • Complete service documentation, reporting, and customer communication following service visits

  • Support equipment assembly, mechanical build, wiring, and installation work in the shop when not traveling

  • Utilize hand tools, measurement devices, and basic electrical test equipment including multimeters

  • Provide professional customer support and maintain strong customer relationships during onsite visits

  • Coordinate with internal service and engineering teams regarding spare parts, repairs, and service recommendations

  • Assist with spare parts quotations, inventory coordination, and customer support activities

  • Work independently with minimal supervision while managing travel schedules and field assignments

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 2–5+ years of hands-on technical experience preferred in areas such as:

    • Field service

    • Industrial maintenance

    • Mechanical or electrical assembly

    • Machine building

    • Industrial equipment support

    • Automation or manufacturing environments

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

  • Basic electrical troubleshooting experience preferred

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings

  • Comfortable using hand tools and performing equipment assembly/repair work

  • Experience using multimeters, checking continuity, and troubleshooting basic electrical components preferred

  • Ability to work independently and interact professionally with customers

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Passport or ability to obtain one required for occasional international travel

  • Forklift/lift experience or willingness to obtain certification preferred

  • CAD exposure such as AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor is a plus, but not required

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

  • Exposure to a wide variety of industries and manufacturing environments

  • Non-repetitive, hands-on technical work

  • Collaborative and laid-back team culture

  • Opportunity to grow into increasingly technical field service responsibilities

  • Company willing to train mechanically inclined individuals with strong work ethic and attitude

  • Significant customer interaction and independence in the field
