Kelly is currently seeking an experienced Process Chemist for a long-term laboratory-based opportunity focused on synthesis of organic compounds and polymers in the Marlborough, MA area! The ideal candidate will be a team player with a solution-oriented mind. The Process Chemist will join a team dedicated for exploring and developing lithographic materials for advanced patterning solutions.

Position functions

  • Conduct synthesis of organic compounds and polymers at laboratory scale up to several hundred grams

  • Use analytical tests to facilitate effective process development, characterize products and ensure final product quality.

  • Document experiments and help in the preparation of technology transfer packages to CROs/CMOs.

  • Maintaining full compliance with all departmental and site-specific Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality regulations, systems, and procedures covering laboratory and scale-up activities.

  • Perform routine lab and business unit maintenance to keep area clean and orderly.

  • Maintain material database, inventory database and order chemical reagents from suppliers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry, preferably from an ACS (American Chemical Society) accredited program

  • A thorough understanding of chemistry at the undergraduate level

  • Experience with general laboratory techniques such as distillation, filtration, closed transfer, crystallization, rotary evaporators, vacuum pumps/ovens and small/large scale glassware.

  • Assisting more senior chemists with their work

  • Perform analysis of compounds and reaction mixtures using common methods: (HPLC, GC, MS, UV/VIS, FTIR, NMR, TLC, IR, GCMS)

  • Involvement in process improvement and development of production and test methods

  • Versatility in common IT applications (Microsoft office).

  • Excellent organizational skills and accuracy in experimental documentation.

  • Good communications skills

  • Thrive in a team environment of shared goals and responsibilities.

Competencies:

  • Synthetic organic chemistry knowledge. Polymerization experience is a plus.

  • Ability to evaluate safety risks and reactivity concerns in multigram scale multistep organic synthesis.

  • Communicate effectively, provide support, in a team setting.

  • Must be highly detail-oriented and organized, able to work both independently and as a team player with a positive attitude.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrate safe behavior in the laboratory.

  • Develop time management strategies to ensure work is performed within required timelines.

  • Participate and present research progress in technical discussions and meetings.

  • Thrive in a team environment of shared goals and responsibilities.
