Kelly is hiring a Junior R&D/TS&D Technician for a 12 – month Contract role with one of our prestigious clients based out in Midland MI 48640.

Job Title: Junior R&D/TS&D Technician
Location: Midland MI 48640 – Onsite role Mon to Fri.
Employment Type: 12-month long term contract
Pay rate: $18 – $21.74/hr. on W2

Summary

  • Provides basic technical support to Lead Scientists and Technologist Leaders in the preparation and execution of experimental activities and studies.

  • Uses existing procedures to provide technical support for product development, application development, technical service, and or product or process research.

  • In this role, you will be using standard operating procedures to complete well-defined activities to develop the technical skills required to perform routine tasks.

  • You will need to understand how these assigned tasks relate to other jobs and be able to exchange information in routine situations within your workgroup.

  • It is your responsibility to use existing procedures to resolve straightforward problems with limited opportunities to independently modify procedures or work processes.

  • You are accountable for managing your assigned tasks and the accuracy of your own work.

  • You will receive close to moderate level of supervision and guidance in this role.

Responsibilities /Duties:
• Works as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing new products and processes.
• Manages and then safely executes laboratory work requests, maintaining and running relevant laboratory apparatus and testing equipment and documenting data.
• Accurately and reliably records readings and observations using relevant equipment and instruments, understanding how assigned duties integrate with others in the team.
• Acts responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of simple and moderately complex instruments or machinery, and troubleshoots faulty equipment effects repairs or initiates repair processes as appropriate
• Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering purchasing procedures, impacting the accuracy of own work.
• Promptly and effectively communicates issues to Technology Leader or lead scientists in order to enable or accelerate problem resolution.
• Actively participate in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics.

Qualifications
• A High School diploma (or equivalent)
• 3 years of laboratory experience required (Local requirements may vary).
• Associate’s degree with emphasis in Chemistry, Biology, or similar technology related area + relevant work experience preferred.

Note:
The role will focus on maintenance of mechanical equipment such as pumps. This includes preventative maintenance activities and repair of vacuum pumps, booster pumps, and other mechanical systems in an R&D lab environment. Mechanical skills such as small engine repair or experience with vacuum pumps would be highly applicable. Attention to safety and following procedures is also required.

Options include:
5 days × 8 hours OR 4-day schedule equivalent
Some tasks must occur on consistent weekly schedules (e.g., equipment servicing)

PPE Requirements

Required:
Lab coat
Safety glasses or goggles (task dependent)
All PPE is provided onsite by Dow

Skills
Experience with mechanical systems such as small engine repair, pump repair, etc.
Ability to maintain logs and records of repair and preventative maintenance activities
Organizational skills to maintain an inventory of rebuilt vacuum pumps to be deployed as needed
Strong safety mindset and willingness to ask questions if unsure about safety considerations
