Department: Community Relations
Location: Onsite – North Minneapolis, Minnesota 55430 (Hennepin County)
Employment Type: Contract, 40 hours per week (Flexibility required to attend after-hours community events)
Pay Rate: $60 per hour
Assignment Length: Up to 2 years, with potential for extension


Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Community Relations Coordinator to join our team in Minneapolis. This newly created role will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with local community organizations, residents, and stakeholders to support ongoing operations. The successful candidate will proactively engage the community, identify key issues, and coordinate responses to reduce escalation risks, support regulatory responsiveness, and preserve operational flexibility.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for community organizations, neighborhood groups, and residents, managing intake, coordination, and follow-up on concerns.

  • Coordinate community efforts with communications, legal, and government affairs teams for consistent messaging.

  • Collaborate closely with management and consultants to develop appropriate responses to community concerns; document actions and close the loop with stakeholders.

  • Identify organizations, causes, programs, and events to support through grants, sponsorships, and employee volunteers.

  • Represent the company/organization on community boards, committees, at events, and association meetings.

  • Manage structured engagement between residents and internal operations to ensure issues are tracked and resolved with clear accountability.

  • Track, measure, and report on community engagement activities, responsiveness, resolution timelines, and mitigation outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in community relations, communications, nonprofit engagement, public affairs, or related issue management roles.

  • Strong self-starter with sound judgment in sensitive or high-visibility situations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage budgets and prioritize resources based on risk and impact.

  • Familiarity with social media, nonprofit management, and neighborhood association structures preferred.

  • Willingness and flexibility to work some nights and weekends to attend community events.

  • Effective in environments with regulatory oversight, public scrutiny, and complex stakeholder interests.
