Packaging Technician (2nd Shift- 3pm to 11:30pm)- Parsippany NJ
Position Summary
The Packaging Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of packaging equipment in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. This role ensures packaging machinery operates efficiently and reliably to support production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards. The Packaging Technician serves as the primary maintenance support for the shift and utilizes mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration knowledge to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform setup, adjustment, changeover, troubleshooting, and repair of packaging equipment to ensure continuous production operations.

  • Maintain and support packaging machinery including visual inspection systems, cartoners, sealers, carton sealing equipment, conveyors, and other automated packaging systems.

  • Execute preventive maintenance programs, including lubrication, inspections, equipment servicing, and routine mechanical checks.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration-related equipment issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Serve as the primary technical support resource for production equipment during assigned shifts.

  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities to align with production schedules and minimize downtime.

  • Conduct line changeovers and machine setup activities according to production requirements.  Assist with equipment installations, modifications, upgrades, and commissioning activities.

  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs, repair records, and equipment documentation to communicate equipment status and ongoing issues across shifts.

  • Develop and support daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with external vendors and service providers when required.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, production efficiency, and reduction of downtime.

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, safety, quality, and company operating procedures.

  • Maintain required training and support production personnel on proper equipment operation and troubleshooting practices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, packaging, maintenance, or process technician role.

  • Experience working in GMP, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, food, beverage, or ISO 13485 regulated environments preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience repairing and maintaining production and packaging equipment.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration systems.

  • Experience troubleshooting packaging machinery such as cartoners, sealers, inspection equipment, conveyors, and automated packaging systems.

  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.

  • Technical school certification, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent technical training preferred.

  • Automotive maintenance or industrial mechanic experience is considered a plus.

  • Experience with robotic and automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance planning and execution.

  • Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional teams.
