Position Summary:

The Lab Technician supports product assembly, characterization, testing and evaluation to ensure conformity to engineering specifications. Responsibilities include assembling small components under a microscope, conducting electrical and mechanical tests, as well as inspecting medical devices and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Job Title: R&D Test Engineer
Pay Rate: $30-$33 Hourly (depending on skills assessment test)
Shift starts between 6:00 AM-2:30 PM Monday-Friday
**6 month contract position

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Supports engineering activities to affect high quality processes and design guidelines for dissemination throughout the division

  • Assemble device prototypes and sub-assemblies

  • Performs inspections of components/product. Performs testing of product per standards and specifications with directions from engineering.

  • Checks moderately complex layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensions

  • Requisitions and maintains equipment and materials; performs vendor and equipment analysis for engineers to determine cost effective and high-quality design processes

  • Assists in designed experiments and capability studies, collects and maintains documents, and records design specifications

  • Collects samples and files required paperwork

  • Uses computer aided industrial design applications such as SolidWorks

  • Perform standard test methods on devices using tools such as multimeters, micrometers, calipers, flow meters, pressure gauges, tensile testers, and torque testers

  • Inspect and test devices post-fabrication to verify they meet specified standards

  • Ensure lab tools, fixtures, and equipment are calibrated and maintained in good condition

  • Perform self-inspections and ensure a clean and orderly workspace

  • Work collaboratively with engineers in a team environment to support research and development efforts

  • Participate in experiments and team discussions in a real time environment

  • Follow standardized procedures and contributes to process improvement efforts when necessary

  • Follow good laboratory procedures and completes training as required.

Experience and Education
 

  • 2-3 years of knowledge and skills to satisfactorily satisfy the responsibilities of the position

  • High School, technical career or equivalent

Preferred
 

  • Medical device experience is highly preferred

  • Ability to construct complex assemblies under magnification required

  • Knowledge of tensile and torque testing laboratory equipment

  • Competence with Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering product specifications

  • Failure analysis methodology experience

  • Familiarity with Windchill a plus

  • SolidWorks experience a plus

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills required

  • Ability to take direction and work directly with engineers

  • Familiarity with safety standards and environmental hazard practices
