2nd shift CNC Machine Operator
Location: Farmington, CT
Shift: Training on 1st Shift (approximately 1 month+), then transition to 2nd Shift
Pay Range: $23 - 30 per hour
Shift Differential: Additional $1.50 per hour available upon successful completion of 1st shift training and transition to 2nd shift
Position Summary
Kelly is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machine Operator to join our sheet metal fabrication team. In this role, you will set up and operate CNC equipment while supporting production runs, troubleshooting machining processes, and ensuring high-quality standards are met. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced manufacturing equipment in a collaborative, continuous-improvement environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC bending, laser cutting, and punching machines.
- Support initial production runs where programming, fixturing, and machining methods are being developed and refined.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving operating or programming issues, particularly with high-quality laser-cut parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, setup plans, and production orders.
- Inspect parts using precision measuring tools, including calipers, protractors, tape measures, and other inspection equipment.
- Ensure all parts meet quality standards before moving to the next operation.
- Sort, organize, and separate parts according to production requirements.
- Support CNC department operations and special projects to meet production schedules and quality expectations.
- Perform routine 5S and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities to maintain equipment, tools, and work areas.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels within the sheet metal storage system.
- Safely operate a variety of equipment and tools, including:
- Forklifts
- Overhead cranes
- Drill presses
- Power drills
- Air tools
- Grinders
- Forklifts
- Deburr, grind, and clean sheet metal components as required.
- Participate in daily shop floor management meetings and continuous improvement initiatives, including SYNCHRO Plus activities (SFM, TK, IK).
- Contribute actively to department SYNCHRO events and improvement projects.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 2–3 years of CNC machining experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
Preferred:
- Experience with TRUMPF CNC machines.
- Sheet metal fabrication experience.
- Experience troubleshooting CNC programming and machining issues.
