Production Planner (6-Month Contract-to-Hire)
Carson, CA | Mon-Fri (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM + OT as needed) | Onsite
Payrate: $35–$40/hr
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Planner to join a high-mix, fast-paced manufacturing environment in Carson, CA. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with strong potential for long-term employment. The Production Planner will be responsible for developing and maintaining production schedules, ensuring material availability, and supporting on-time delivery performance across a dynamic production operation. This role requires a hands-on presence on the production floor, including walking the warehouse, engaging with employees, and collaborating directly with operations teams to ensure alignment between production plans and real-time execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain master production schedules using ERP/MRP systems to ensure on-time delivery and efficient capacity utilization
- Level-load production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, and operational constraints
- Monitor daily production performance and adjust schedules as needed to address delays, shortages, or priority changes
- Collaborate with Production, Supply Chain, Sales, and Warehouse teams to align demand forecasts with production capabilities
- Conduct regular floor walks to communicate with employees, verify schedule execution, and identify production issues in real time
- Support S&OP processes by integrating demand forecasts and capacity planning inputs
- Track and analyze KPIs including on-time delivery, schedule adherence, and production efficiency
- Identify bottlenecks and support corrective action planning to improve workflow and throughput
- Maintain accurate ERP data and ensure integrity of production orders, routing, and inventory status
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities
- Support recovery planning in response to disruptions or material shortages
Requirements
- 5+ years of production planning experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Syteline or SAP preferred)
- Strong understanding of capacity planning, scheduling, and inventory flow
- Experience in high-mix, custom, or low-volume manufacturing environments strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools
- Strong communication skills with ability to work cross-functionally on the production floor
- Comfortable working in both office and active warehouse/plant environments (Steel Toe Shoes Required)
- Ability to walk the production floor daily and interact with operations staff
- APICS CPIM/CSCP certification is a plus
