Laboratory Technician – Catalyst R&D
Department: Packaging & Specialty Plastics – Catalyst R&D Group
Role Overview
Join our innovative Catalyst R&D Group as a Laboratory Technician, supporting research scientists in synthesizing catalysts and delivering critical analytical data for the development and evaluation of new polyolefin catalysts. Your work will drive advancements in the Packaging & Specialty Plastics business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lab Operations:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain catalyst analytical equipment and fluidized bed reactors (training provided).
- Support plastics catalyst development projects from sample prep to analysis.

- Analytical Techniques:
- Utilize advanced instruments: gas chromatography, elemental titration systems, FTIR, and others.
- Prepare sensitive catalyst samples using a nitrogen glovebox.

- Measurement & Documentation:
- Accurately measure samples and reactants to 0.001 g precision.
- Maintain precise experimental records; analyze and communicate results.

- Safety & Compliance:
- Complete process safety checklists and walkthroughs daily.
- Manage and dispose of chemicals and waste in accordance with RCRA regulations.

- Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine and preventive reactor maintenance (tubing/valve replacement, pump repairs, vessel cleaning).
- Troubleshoot and resolve process issues to maintain optimal reactor conditions.

- Collaboration:
- Partner with the lab coordinator and promptly report any deviations or issues.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards for a safe, efficient laboratory.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting, and critical thinking abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail; high standards for data accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and laboratory software.
- Solid understanding of basic chemical properties (boiling/flash points, vapor pressure, MW, density).
- Comfortable handling flammable and pyrophoric materials safely.
- Experience with air- and moisture-sensitive reagent integrity.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate across teams.
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Safety & Physical Requirements
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Adherence to PPE requirements at all times
Work Schedule
- 4 days per week
- 10-hour shifts
- Occasional work outside standard hours as needed
