Kelly currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Polyurethanes R&D/TS&D Technician in the Freeport, Texas area!
This role will support the Polyurethanes Energy Efficiency and Furniture & Bedding (EEFB) Application Development and Technical Service (AD&TS).
The EEFB AD&TS team leads the development, testing and commercialization of new products for the Polyurethanes business in North America for a variety of insulation and consumer comfort applications. The candidate will work with a group of technologists in the Polyurethanes laboratories to align with project leaders to deliver product formulations, characterization and eventual commercialization in rigid and flexible foam technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Train/operate foam equipment (box foamer; support large slab foam machine); prepare and dispense formulation blends for runs

  • Provide analytical/testing support (backup testing lab technician for rigids/flex foam; generate cup foams and record gel/tack-free times; create/test skin-cure molds)

  • Operate and maintain equipment (high-pressure injection equipment, band saw, forklift); perform mechanical troubleshooting

  • Packaging lab waste generated in the lab

  • Support technology demonstrations for customer visits

  • Additional lab duties as determined by sponsor

    • Recording experimental observations

    • Disciplined documentation skills

    • Cross-functional team participation


  • Cross-train across lab areas to improve throughput; participate in safety and quality programs (Diamond Learning, quarterly safety meetings, monthly safety committee)

    • Order, organize, and stage materials; ship/handle internal and external customer samples

Additional attributes

  • Demonstrated and effective mechanical troubleshooting abilities preferred

  • Clear communicator; effective in a team environment

  • Works independently with limited supervision after training

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Basic chemistry knowledge; fast learner; mechanical aptitude; strong safety/housekeeping awareness

Qualifications

  • 1+ year applicable experience (heavy lab or production)

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. permanently (no visa sponsorship/support available)

Requires routine use of PPE (safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, and other PPE as required). Physical demands may include wearing hearing/eye/respiratory protection and steel-toed shoes; frequent bending/reaching/lifting; working in tight spaces and at heights; standing/walking for extended periods; lifting up to 50 lbs.
