Maintenance Worker – Maintenance Mechanic

Location:  Woburn MA
Job Type: Full-time/temp to perm
Pay Range: $30 – $35 per hour


Position Summary:
The Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic is a member of the maintenance department responsible for preventative maintenance on industrial production equipment, ensuring operability, reliability, and the proper functioning of related safety devices and systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, power transmission, and related equipment.

  • Complete Preventative Maintenance schedules for fire safety, emergency lighting, eyewash stations, and production/facility equipment.

  • Maintain, repair, and lubricate machinery and equipment, as well as perform physical structure repairs and maintain pipe and simple electrical systems.

  • Collaborate with engineering to assist in the installation of new equipment and processes.

  • Communicate issues and statuses to other departments as necessary, coordinating work that impacts production schedules to minimize disruptions.

  • Perform repairs and PM tasks routinely, documenting tasks for future reference.

  • Research, recommend, and maintain spare parts inventory as directed.

  • Document all departmental and contractor work in maintenance software, including costs and explanations of issues.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors to perform specified work, including electrical, HVAC, roofing, cleaning, and specialized equipment repairs.

  • Set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes, surface grinders, drills, and milling machines to repair or fabricate simple machine parts, with instruction.

  • Safely utilize ladders and scissor lifts while working at elevated heights, following appropriate safety equipment and practices.

  • Operate a forklift safely on the job floor.

  • Follow other job-related instructions and perform additional duties or projects as requested by the Manager.

Requirements / Background:

  • 5 years of mechanical experience with industrial equipment required.

  • Ability to run a Bridgeport, lathe, and/or other machine shop equipment preferred.

  • Mechanical or machining trade or vocational education training, and/or facilities/industrial maintenance work experience.

  • Electrical experience within an industrial setting is a plus.

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

  • Basic knowledge of large HP mechanical drive systems, including gearbox reducers, belts, pulleys, chains, and sprockets.

  • Working knowledge of pumps, valves, and piping.

  • Ability to follow directions and work safely and effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend.

  • Climb ladders and stairs as needed.

  • Constantly exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects, frequently exert 25 to 50 pounds, and occasionally exert 50 to 100 pounds.

  • Visual acuity for reading machine dial gauges and precision measuring instruments.

  • Hearing ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize duties.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Diligent attention to detail and high level of accuracy.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
