Shipping & Receiving Clerk – 1st / 2nd Shift

$18–$20/hr | Chicago Southeast Side (Hammond–Hegewisch)
Temp-to-hire with Kelly Services | Start within a week

Details & Culture
Ready for a true front-lines shipping and receiving gig? This is a busy place, especially on the dry side, and seeking someone who thrives amid fast-moving teams, noisy docks, and the occasional “spirited” truck driver. Here, staying calm, collected, and organized under pressure is as important as knowing your way around a WMS.
If you’re looking for a role where people rely on you to keep it together, and you’re ready to prove composure is your superpower you belong in this seat.
This job is for real; you’ll be working right at the heartbeat of a team that values customer service as much as solid paperwork accuracy. Expect less overtime here than some places, but don’t expect your own office, this is a loud, fast, people-facing, problem-solving role.

Pay & Schedule:

  • $18–$20/hr (based on skills/shifts/cold or dry—dry is BUSY)

  • 1st shift: Mon–Fri, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM OR 12:30 PM–9:00 PM (lunch flexible based on dock activity)

  • Some flexibility for holiday or weekend help if needed (rare but possible)

What You’ll Do:

  • Welcome and sign in drivers, coordinate dock assignments (be the calm in the chaos)

  • Maintain schedules in WMS, paper, and digital, accuracy is everything

  • Check logs, counts, and confirm what’s leaving and arriving

  • Communicate schedule shifts to warehouse, carriers, and managers

  • Input all data, inventory, and appointment info, fast and right (WMS and SAP are common)

  • Champion food-safety and warehouse processes (no cutting corners here)

  • Navigate a high-energy, often noisy dock with clarity and respect

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1.5–2+ years of recent shipping & receiving experience, NO major gaps

  • Polished, calm communication on loud docks (think: duck on water, calm above, paddling underneath)

  • Experience with WMS (required) and/or SAP (strong plus)

  • Proven multitasker, detail-checker, data-entry pro

  • Able to relate to truckers, office, and warehouse crew—sometimes all at once

  • Ready to pass instant drug screen (10-panel, no THC) and background check, onboarding within 48 hours after F2F interview

  • Can follow protocol (steel toes, no jewelry, hands-free for the tour/interview)

Hiring Process:

  • Step 1: Short pre-screen (5–10 min phone call)

  • Step 2: Face-to-face onsite interview + dock tour (bring steel toes, leave jewelry at home!)

  • Step 3: Instant drug & background screening (done on the spot—must pass, no THC is tested)

  • Step 4: Paperwork & onboarding, aiming for less than 48 hours between interview and confirmed start

  • Step 5: You join the team—no long waits, real work, real people

What Will Really Impress Us:

  • You adapt to different schedules and can keep a cool head if everyone’s yelling

  • You pick up new systems fast OR can impress us on the pre-screen that you learn like lightning

  • You want to work, and start within a week

How to Apply:

  • MUST apply online, resume updated within 2 years, polished and highlighting your shipping/receiving, data, and WMS/SAP skills (we must see the months and years)

  • Only serious and ready-to-start-within-a-week candidates, please!

And for quicker responses text “SRCZ” to 847-729-2575 and answer one question below:
If you could instantly organize any one thing in a chaotic warehouse, what would you pick, and why? (It can be short and sweet; just a sentence, or long and detailed)

Thank you for applying!
