Job Title: R&D Lab Tech
Position Overview:
The R&D Lab Contractor will play a crucial role in supporting the Catalyst Scale Up R&D team by delivering hands-on laboratory and technical assistance throughout the catalyst development process. This dynamic role calls for a reliable, self-motivated individual with strong attention to detail, a passion for safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold Operating Discipline principles and strictly follow all laboratory safety procedures to ensure a secure and efficient work environment.
- Prepare, analyze, and test catalysts while following protocols and instructions provided by the R&D team.
- Develop expertise in the safe sampling, handling, and analysis of catalysts, catalyst components, and raw materials, including air- and moisture-sensitive substances. Employ advanced laboratory techniques such as vacuum lines, inert atmosphere glove boxes, and nitrogen padding.
- Coordinate the shipping of laboratory samples as needed.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste according to RCRA standards and company policies.
- Maintain up-to-date inventory of catalysts, ligands, intermediates, and gas cylinders.
- Oversee general laboratory maintenance, including upkeep of vacuum systems, glove boxes, and gas cylinder repairs.
- Operate and maintain lab-scale reactors, ensuring reliability and accurate data collection.
Preferred Experience:
- 1–2 years of relevant laboratory, industrial, chemical, maintenance, or technical experience.
- Background in chemistry strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience in chemical manufacturing, research, laboratory, or technical settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safety-focused work environment.
- Mechanical aptitude and/or experience with laboratory or industrial equipment is desirable.
Preferred Education:
- Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Process Technology, or a related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related science field is preferred.
- Equivalent laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Work Schedule:
We offer flexible scheduling options to support work-life balance, including:
- Option 1: Five 8-hour days per week
- Option 2: Four 9-hour days plus one 4-hour day, typically with the shorter day scheduled on Fridays. Alternate arrangements may be made as needed.
Preferred Technical Experience:
Candidates with proficiency operating or working around the following equipment will be highly valued:
- Glove boxes
- Vacuum pumps
- Laboratory chemical apparatus
- Laboratory reactors
- Wet chemistry instrumentation
- Chemical processing equipment
