Location: Richland, WA
Job Type: Part-Time, Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM (Approximately 30 hours per week)
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour, depending on experience

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Insurance Specialist to join our healthcare team in Richland, WA. This is a direct hire opportunity with the employer, offering the stability and long-term security of permanent employment rather than a temporary or contract position.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical insurance processes, including insurance verification, benefits review, prior authorizations, referrals, and coordination with insurance companies. We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, accurate, and capable of working independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage

  • Obtain and track prior authorizations for healthcare services

  • Review insurance requirements and communicate necessary information to patients and clinical staff

  • Follow up with insurance carriers regarding authorization status, coverage questions, and claims-related issues

  • Obtain referrals when required by insurance plans

  • Accurately document insurance information, communications, and authorizations

  • Monitor pending authorizations and proactively prevent delays in patient care

  • Communicate patient financial responsibility and coverage limitations when appropriate

  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and billing teams to resolve insurance-related concerns

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality

  • Assist with additional insurance and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications
Required:

  • Previous experience working with medical insurance, healthcare administration, or a medical office environment

  • Experience with insurance verification, benefits investigation, and prior authorizations

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills

  • Professional verbal and written communication abilities

  • Comfortable communicating with insurance companies, providers, and patients by phone

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems and software

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans

  • Experience working with insurance claims, referrals, and reimbursement processes

  • Healthcare specialty or durable medical equipment experience is a plus
