Cage Wash Technician – Animal Resource Center (Direct Hire)
Location: Cleveland, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time  - Direct Hire

Join the Animal Resource Center (ARC) at a major University and play a vital role in supporting university research efforts! As a Cage Wash Technician, you’ll be an essential member of the cage wash operations and animal husbandry team, maintaining the health and well-being of our research animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and sanitize animal cages, bottles, and equipment, operating both autoclaves and washers, and ensuring all items meet rigorous quality standards.

  • Collect, process, and refill water bottles, conduct flow checks and return supplies to designated areas.

  • Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and quality control on cage wash equipment and autoclaves.

  • Maintain postmortem rooms and carry out rodent euthanasia procedures with compassion and attention to protocol.

  • Prepare food using sterile techniques and label all containers for accurate tracking.

  • Provide basic animal husbandry care, including feeding, watering, changing bedding, cage rotation, and observation of animal health and well-being.

  • Record animal health data, inventory, and daily checklists using digital devices and data software.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.

  • 0–3 months of experience in a laboratory animal facility. (On-the-job training provided!)

  • Interest in working with and caring for animals, with an understanding of their value in research.

  • Willingness to pursue certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) through AALAS—university support provided.

  • Must be able to work alternating weekends and holidays.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
