Position Overview

This senior role leads Technology Transfer, Process Engineering, and site engineering readiness, with a major near-term focus on a 300,000-square-foot site expansion that will establish new manufacturing capabilities. The program includes storage, blending, automated high-speed packaging operations, and drug-product processing in Class 7 and Class 8 cleanroom environments, with a planned launch in Q2 2028.
The Sr. Manager will guide engineering and process work from design through procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational handoff, while sustaining effective product and process transfers into manufacturing. The role partners with the internal Engineering team and PMO and leads a lean technical team. Reports to the Senior Director, Engineering & Operational Excellence.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Eastern Standard Time business hours   Work environment: Unionized manufacturing facility

Responsibilities

Capital Project & Expansion Leadership

  • Lead engineering readiness and assigned engineering scope for the major site-expansion program, advancing the work from basis of design through detailed design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, startup, and planned launch.

  • Partner with the PMO, internal Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, R&D, external design partners, contractors, and equipment suppliers to align scope, design quality, milestones, dependencies, resources, and decisions.

  • Provide technical input to project scope, alternatives, estimates, schedules, business cases, capital requests, project risks, change controls, and execution priorities; escalate significant issues with clear recommendations.

  • Promote high-quality, fit-for-purpose engineering design and on-time execution; support readiness for procurement and construction phases.

Site Engineering Readiness & Process Engineering

  • Translate product, process, and manufacturing needs into equipment, facility, utility, automation, layout, process-flow, and operating requirements.

  • Lead process engineering for existing operations, new products, new equipment, and expansion initiatives, including process design, scale-up, equipment selection, technical evaluation, troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate and participate in design reviews to ensure process, operability, maintainability, quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements are incorporated; identify and resolve readiness gaps, risks, decisions, and dependencies.

  • Support design and integration of storage, blending, packaging line centers, and automated high-speed filling, sealing, capping, labeling, and palletizing operations.

Technology Transfer & Commercialization

  • Provide functional leadership and accountability for the site Technology Transfer process and lead cross-functional teams spanning R&D, Analytical, Packaging Development, Formulation Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Supply Planning, and other partners.

  • Establish and execute transfer strategies, plans, risk assessments, technical activities, and manufacturing handoffs to move products and processes from development into stable operations.

  • Ensure transfers meet safety, quality, regulatory, commercialization, and business requirements; resolve technical and cross-functional issues affecting timelines and manufacturing readiness.

Commissioning, Startup & Operational Handoff

  • Lead or coordinate engineering readiness for equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, startup, and transition to operations.

  • Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Validation, and other teams to establish readiness requirements and close punch-list items, technical deficiencies, and startup risks.

  • Ensure sustainable handoff through appropriate technical training, maintenance requirements, spare-parts strategies, operating documentation, and other engineering deliverables.

People Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead, coach, and develop Technology Transfer and Process Engineering personnel; set clear priorities, ownership, expectations, and accountability, and delegate to build team capability.

  • Lead cross-functional teams and technical discussions with confidence, influence without direct authority, and make sound decisions amid ambiguity and competing priorities.

  • Build scalable processes, standards, tools, and lessons learned that strengthen future technology transfers, capital projects, commercialization, and long-term site engineering capability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; an advanced degree or relevant project/engineering certification is preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in capital/project engineering, Technology Transfer, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, or a related technical discipline; this is a senior-level opportunity.

  • Demonstrated leadership of complex capital projects, site expansions, or manufacturing implementations from design or concept through construction, commissioning, startup, and operational handoff.

  • Strong experience with manufacturing processes, packaging operations, and high-speed production in a regulated manufacturing environment. Experience in pharmaceutical, food and beverage, or comparable process manufacturing is valuable.

  • Experience transferring products, processes, or technologies from development into manufacturing, and leading technical personnel and/or cross-functional teams.

  • Working knowledge of engineering project execution, equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, startup, and operational readiness.

  • Knowledge of FDA/GMP requirements, applicable ISO requirements, Good Engineering Practices, design controls, risk management, change management, scheduling, vendor management, and cross-functional project execution.

  • Experience with cleanroom design or drug-product processing is a plus; familiarity with Class 7 and Class 8 cleanroom environments and API-category products is advantageous.

  • Familiarity with capital planning, budgeting, forecasting, project controls, and capital governance.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; able to identify risk, provide clear recommendations, and work effectively through ambiguity.

  • Ability to coach and develop team members, delegate effectively, and demonstrate sound judgment, self-direction, attention to detail, and results orientation.

  • Working understanding of business and financial concepts.
