Through our partnership with the National Institutes of Health, Kelly Government Solutions offers administrative, IT, engineering, scientific, and healthcare professionals the opportunity to work with the leading medical research center in the world.  We are seeking a Blood Bank Technologist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall: 

  1. Perform laboratory testing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.

  2. Perform compatibility crossmatch testing of donor and patient-recipient samples using automated and manual methods

  3. Perform moderately complex testing to resolve complex RBC blood group antibody problems in consultation with technical specialist.

  4. Maintain laboratory equipment

  5. Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers

  6. Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relations with groups and individuals, agencies, and the public to encourage cooperative management strategies or to develop information and interpret findings

  7. Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel

  8. Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings

  9. Perform component manufacturing duties i.e., prepare blood components such as frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, leuko-reduced RBC, buffy coats from whole blood collections and pathogen reduced platelets.

  10. Perform lot release and labeling for blood components

  11. Evaluate blood transfusion orders for appropriateness based on screening criteria

  12. Communicate with nurses and physicians to clarify questionable transfusion or testing orders

  13. Independently resolve routine RBC blood group antibody problems

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 

  1. Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory training program in laboratory science -Minimum three (3) years of blood bank experience in laboratory environment is preferred.

  2. Strong oral and written communication skills -Analytical, organizational and time management skills

  3. Experience with Software such as: MS Office Suite
