Kelly Science & Clinical is excited to share this Animal Research Associate Vivarium position at a Research Facility in Carlsbad, CA. 

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:45/8:00 AM – 4:15/4:30 PM, with rotating weekend/holiday shifts-Full-time/Temp

Pay Rate: $23/hour DOE

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review, comprehend, and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance standards relevant to the assigned area.

  • Monitor daily animal health and welfare through regular observations and perform necessary husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals.

  • Conduct daily checks on water bottles/automatic water lines and cages, provide food and water as required, and perform cage changing and cleaning as necessary.

  • Ear tag each rodent upon arrival at the facility as per SOPs.

  • Assist with the restraint, handling, and manipulation of mice and rats under the direction of the on-site Supervisor.

  • Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.

  • Strictly adhere to all procedures for maintaining animal housing areas, including entry protocols, use of personal protective equipment, and proper sanitation practices.

  • Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals, and ensure provision for sentinel animals in rodent housing areas.

  • Operate equipment and utilize supplies in accordance with safety guidelines, maintaining general housekeeping and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to work schedule requirements to ensure timely completion of assigned duties.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

  • Experience: Preferably one (1) year or more of animal care and handling experience in a laboratory or similar setting.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered as a substitute for the specific requirements listed above.

  • Certification/Licensure: Preferred AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level.

  • Previous husbandry experience with mice and rats is desirable.

Additional Information:

  • Previous husbandry experience preferred (mice and rats).

  • Position offers $23/hour, 40 hours per week, including rotating weekends and holidays once fully trained.

  • Additional onboarding requirements include a TB test and respirator fit test.
