Job Title: Laboratory Technician (Materials Testing)

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support sample preparation, testing, and reporting activities in accordance with established test methods and standard operating procedures. This role involves both hands-on mechanical work and precise data recording, with opportunities to contribute to technical support and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze samples following published test methods and company/client SOPs

  • Fabricate test specimens using hand tools and power tools

  • Perform destructive and non-destructive physical testing on a variety of materials

  • Accurately record and document test results using handwritten datasheets, computer-generated reports, and electronic systems

  • Compile and prepare clear, organized test reports

  • Operate, maintain, and assist in validation of laboratory equipment and instruments

  • Support investigation and resolution of client inquiries and complaints

  • Provide limited technical support to internal teams (marketing, sales, customer service) and external clients as needed

  • Coordinate with laboratory staff on sample receiving, logging, preparation, and testing workflows

  • Fabricate fixtures or equipment required for testing processes

  • Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with applicable industry standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering discipline preferred

  • Prior laboratory experience is a plus

Skills & Competencies:

  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools; strong mechanical aptitude

  • Understanding of laboratory quality systems and operations

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Strong computer skills, including data entry, file management, and documentation

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a team

  • Willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and testing methods

  • Experience in a machine shop or tool room environment is a plus

  • Knowledge of automation or PLC programming is desirable

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • High level of integrity, customer focus, and a strong work ethic

Work Environment:
This position involves a mix of laboratory testing, equipment handling, and data analysis in a structured lab setting. Candidates should be comfortable working with tools, machinery, and technical equipment.
