Overview
This organization primarily supports automotive R&D facilities, along with a secondary division focused on process manufacturing environments such as utilities, chemical, and energy.

The company designs, builds, and integrates PLC-based control systems, instrumentation, and facility/process control solutions for research and industrial applications.

The Project Manager will lead projects from contract award through commissioning and closeout, managing scope, schedule, budget, and client relationships while ensuring successful execution of complex control system projects. This role is best suited for a hands-on project manager with a strong background in process control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process control and facility automation projects from kickoff through completion within automotive R&D and process manufacturing environments.

  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and resources across engineering, field teams, and subcontractors.

  • Coordinate and oversee PLC-based control systems, instrumentation, and system integration activities.

  • Review electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements and standards.

  • Manage procurement, vendors, and subcontractors to maintain cost, quality, and schedule targets.

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and startup activities, ensuring safe execution and compliance with applicable standards.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates, resolving issues, and managing expectations.

  • Support estimating, contract coordination, and planning for control system and instrumentation projects.

  • Drive troubleshooting and resolution efforts during commissioning and system handoff.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in process control systems, industrial controls, or instrumentation.

  • 3+ years of project management experience in controls integration, utilities, or process manufacturing environments.

  • Hands-on experience with PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, instrumentation, and process control applications.

  • Experience working in automotive R&D facilities or process industries (utilities, chemical, energy) strongly preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control system designs, and process documentation (e.g., P&IDs).

  • Strong field coordination experience including installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with project tools such as Bluebeam, Procore, BIM 360, or similar platforms is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of NEC, OSHA, NFPA, and applicable safety standards.
