Kelly Engineering is hiring a Plastic Mold Process Engineer for a short-term contract with one of our manufacturing clients for surgical consumables, located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Contract Plastic Mold Process Engineer (May–June Support)
Location: Colorado Springs, CO (near Colorado Springs Airport)
Duration: Contract – Month of May (possible extension into June)
Schedule: On?site support; M–Th production (2 shifts), Friday flexible

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Plastic Mold Process Engineer to provide on?site technical support for our client in the Medical Surgical Consumables space. This role is intended to address a short?term resource constraint and help mitigate potential schedule impacts to an active program.   The need is for a couple of months starting in early May.   It’s possible it could evolve into a longer-term opportunity for the right consultant.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands?on experience with process development, validation (OQ/PQ), and production support for plastic overmolding applications.
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform process characterization on Autoejector molding machines using polypropylene and Santoprene materials to define robust process parameters for overmolded cable assemblies

  • Develop and author Operational Qualification (OQ) protocols

  • Lead and support OQ execution activities on the manufacturing floor

  • Provide metrology support, including dimensional data collection and analysis

  • Support production operations during Performance Qualification (PQ) runs

  • Collaborate closely with supplier manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to ensure successful execution and documentation

  • Help alleviate short?term resource constraints to maintain program timelines

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Plastic Mold Process Engineer or similar role

  • Hands?on experience with injection molding process development and validation

  • Familiarity with polypropylene and Santoprene materials

  • Experience supporting OQ and PQ activities in a regulated manufacturing environment

  • Strong understanding of process characterization, metrology, and statistical data

  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly in a supplier support environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medical device manufacturing or regulated industries

  • Familiarity with overmolding cable assemblies

  • Prior experience supporting supplier operations or short?term recovery efforts

Work Schedule & Travel Considerations

  • Primary production runs occur Monday–Thursday across two shifts

  • Fridays are generally non?production but can be flexed as needed

  • Travel approach is flexible:

    • Local candidates in the Denver or Colorado Springs area are strongly preferred

    • Daily car travel from Denver to Colorado Springs with reduced work hours may be an option

    • We aim to avoid weekly flights, but travel details can be discussed based on candidate availability and location

Contract Duration

  • Target start: Month of May

  • Potential extension into June, depending on availability and project needs
