Senior Staff Audit Support Specialist
Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid)
Compensation: Based on experience
Summary
The Senior Staff Audit Support Specialist is responsible for assisting with the planning, execution, and reporting of internal audit activities. This role focuses on identifying organizational risks, ensuring compliance with established internal control procedures, and providing value-added recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
Scope of Work
- Identify functional and operational risk areas within the organization and the associated service funds.
- Contribute to the development of audit procedures designed to mitigate organizational risks.
- Execute compliance, financial, and operational audits in alignment with the Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) and other applicable standards.
- Verify adherence to internal control procedures by reviewing records, operating practices, and supporting documentation.
- Document audit procedures and exceptions through the creation of clear, concise work papers and reports.
- Conduct self-reviews of documentation to maintain high-quality assurance standards.
- Implement corrective recommendations for any deficiencies identified during the review process.
- Present audit results and findings through formal oral and written communications to management and relevant committees.
- Foster professional relationships across various divisions to facilitate seamless audit progress.
- Provide on-the-job coaching and preliminary work reviews for staff-level auditors.
- Support investigations, strategic initiatives, and special divisional projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training and professional certifications.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of directly related audit experience, including 1 to 2 years of operational experience.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency in ACL, Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and MS Project.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to synthesize information from multiple sources into accurate communications.
- Project Management: Proven history of delivering results and managing complex tasks effectively.
- Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of discretion.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment to support colleagues.
- Travel: Flexibility to travel out of town on a periodic, as-needed basis.
- Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) is preferred.
