Design Systems Engineer (Controller Hardware)
- Location: 100% ONSITE - Auburn Hills, MI (48326)
- Duration: 12+ month contract – (extension potential and/or Internal Hire possibilities)
- Pay: Negotiable depending on DIRECT related experience UP to $56/hr
- Type: W2 contract ONLY - (C2C OR THIRD-PARTY arrangements will NOT be considered)
- Work Authorization: Must be currently located and authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship requirements.
About the Role
Seeking a Design Systems Engineer for a systems-level, cross-functional role focused on controller hardware across multiple vehicle programs. This engineer will be the interface between engineering, product release, software, and controls teams, with responsibility for system integration and issue resolution. Prior DRE experience is required, but this is not a design release position. Minimal CAD/design work.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related field
- 5+ years of engineering experience in automotive or similar industry
- Strong background with control modules/control hardware & electromechanical systems
- Prior DRE experience as foundational skill
- Knowledge of CAN protocols, sensors, and actuators
- Experience with automotive development processes (DFMEA, validation, etc.)
Key Responsibilities
- Act as controller hardware system owner for integration and application activities
- Collaborate with Design Release Engineering, Centers of Excellence, Software/Controls, suppliers, validation, and program teams
- Lead/support system-level issue resolution and requirements development
- Coordinate electrical and communication integration (CAN, EE architecture) across modules
- Contribute to cost, timing, and value optimization for new programs and changes
