Materials Planning Support Specialist

Pay Rate: $23/hour
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–4:00 pm


Position Summary:
As a Materials Planning Support Specialist, you will play a key role in planning, monitoring, and coordinating job flow within and between manufacturing and support departments. Working closely with the Materials Planning Supervisor and Operations Managers, you’ll help ensure customer orders are completed accurately and delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Review customer order requirements and confirm material/tooling availability for production work order creation.

  • Identify material needs, initiate “Request for Quote,” and ensure purchase orders are processed.

  • Generate and release all Engineered Product work orders to Production.

  • Create and manage production schedules; reserve raw materials for future deliveries.

  • Review, approve, and process order amendments and expedite requests from Customer Service.

  • Communicate order priorities and resolve issues with Production and Customer Service teams via meetings or email.

  • Ensure proper costing for all jobs prior to closure, including labor hours, material, and outside services.

  • Review and resolve schedule exception reports daily.

  • Coordinate with the Materials Planning Supervisor and MRO Buyer for timely outside services.

  • Complete daily work order transactions; serve as backup for other Schedulers and the Materials Planning Supervisor.

  • Propose improvements to scheduling processes, cost reduction activities, and overall production productivity.

  • Ensure same-day shipment of stock products.

  • Maintain clear, timely communication and coordinate plans with all relevant staff.

  • Review production schedules daily with departments to ensure adherence to plan.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; at least two years of college, vocational, or related training preferred.

  • 2–3 years of experience in production planning and scheduling, preferably in a machining job shop environment.

  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical and data processing skills.

  • Effective planner with strong monitoring and follow-up capabilities.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; ERP/MRP system experience highly desired.

  • Strong cross-functional communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • May occasionally be required to walk, sit, use hands, reach, balance, stoop, talk, or hear.

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Visual requirements include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Work performed in both an office and machine shop environment.
