If you’re passionate about developing innovative aerospace products and enjoy solving complex engineering challenges from concept through production, this could be an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact.
Compensation
Up to $175,000 annually
Overview
Our client is a global engineering and manufacturing organization that develops highly engineered products and critical components for the aerospace, defense, transportation, industrial, and energy markets. Their aerospace division supports both commercial and military aircraft programs through the design and manufacture of specialized components and systems used in demanding operating environments.
As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will support Environmental Control System (ECS) product lines, balancing approximately 50% new product development and 50% sustaining engineering activities. As a senior member of a collaborative engineering team, you will lead the design, development, qualification, and production support of composite, metallic, and elastomer-based aerospace components, including ducting, thermal management, and fluid control products.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys both technical design work and hands-on problem solving. Success requires a willingness to collaborate closely with manufacturing teams, troubleshoot production challenges, and drive continuous product improvement throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and production support of aerospace components and assemblies from concept through launch and sustaining engineering.
- Translate customer and program requirements into robust, manufacturable designs utilizing composite, metallic, and elastomeric materials.
- Develop 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of material, tooling concepts, and technical documentation.
- Perform engineering analysis and support simulation activities using ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar tools.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, testing, supply chain, and program management teams to achieve technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Support prototype development, product validation, qualification testing, certification efforts, and production readiness activities.
- Troubleshoot design, manufacturing, testing, and field performance issues using structured root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Lead technical reviews, provide engineering recommendations, and mentor junior engineers across project teams.
- Support both commercial and defense aerospace programs throughout the product lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of engineering design and product development experience.
- Experience designing aerospace components, assemblies, or systems utilizing composite materials, metallic materials, and/or elastomeric products.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or CATIA.
- Experience performing engineering analysis using ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience supporting products through development, qualification, production launch, and sustaining engineering activities.
- Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ability and willingness to support manufacturing operations and production issue resolution in a hands-on environment.
- Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred; candidates from other highly regulated manufacturing industries with significant composite design experience may also be considered.
- U.S. Citizenship or other status permitting access to export-controlled information is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading technical projects or serving as a project engineer.
- Familiarity with RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or other aerospace qualification standards.
- Experience authoring qualification test procedures, test plans, and technical reports.
- Knowledge of Oracle or similar ERP/MRP systems.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership within engineering organizations.
