Material Handler – 2nd Shift

Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Material Handler for our 2nd shift team. The primary responsibility is to supply production lines and manufacturing areas with essential bulk packaging and production materials, ensuring efficient and continuous operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe work environment by following all safety and ergonomic protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with standard operating procedures.

  • Recommend improvements regarding safety, production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area; participate in safety and quality improvement projects.

  • Conduct regular quality checks of incoming and outgoing materials, complying with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  • Interact with the warehouse concerning supply and automated inventory system challenges.

  • Supply staging areas with required materials and manage returns of bins, drums, or super-sacs from/to the airlock.

  • Operate forklifts and hand trucks for transporting and stocking materials as necessary.

  • Accurately record component movements, including lot numbers and quantities, in the automated inventory system (SAP).

  • Utilize SAP for various transactions, including scrap, reconciliation, manual transfers, and inventory cleanup.

  • Perform clerical tasks efficiently using SAP, MES, Microsoft Office, Tulip, and other relevant systems.

  • Work collaboratively to establish priorities, meet deadlines, and foster a team-oriented culture.

  • Take ownership of personal training and skill development to enhance competencies.

  • Support the Utility person and assist in departmental and line cleaning per SOP requirements.

  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Working Relationships

  • Routine interaction with peers and support teams, including Process Technology, Production, Inventory, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, Engineering, and occasional contact with Sales, Marketing, and external partners.

  • General supervision with work assigned to comply with production schedules and specific process instructions provided via written records and SOPs.

  • Role requires good technical ability for equipment operation and sound judgment during processes and equipment maintenance.

  • Some output is reviewed by supervision, Quality Assurance, and co-workers.

  • Flexibility needed for frequent schedule changes based on production or customer demands.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Demonstrated ability to work safely in a production environment.

  • Proficient in English (speaking, reading, writing).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Accurate mathematical skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of Windows and Lotus Notes.

  • Familiarity with automated inventory tracking systems.

  • Experience working in environments with GMP or SOP requirements.

Preferred:

  • Experience with SAP inventory tracking.

  • Previous experience as a Material Handler.

  • Forklift experience.
