Packaging Engineer
Location: Camarillo, CA
Employment Type: 12-Month Contract
Pay: $60–$70 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Ideally onsite; a hybrid schedule may be considered for a highly qualified candidate.
Kelly Engineering is seeking a Packaging Engineer to improve protective packaging for products used in the biotechnology industry. This person will investigate packaging issues and develop solutions that help products arrive protected and maintain their sterile condition.
What You’ll Do
- Investigate packaging damage, broken seals, and customer complaints.
- Design and improve primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging and labeling.
- Evaluate packaging materials for product protection, performance, cost, and regulatory suitability.
- Plan and conduct package and label verification and validation testing.
- Work with suppliers on packaging materials, testing, and improvements.
- Support risk assessments, change control, and packaging documentation.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 4–6+ years of hands-on packaging and/or labeling design and development experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, or a related regulated industry.
- Experience with packaging verification and validation testing and documentation.
- Working knowledge of ISTA, ASTM, and TAPPI packaging testing standards.
- CAD proficiency, such as SolidWorks.
- Experience working in a GMP environment.
- Experience with sustainable packaging or automated packaging equipment is a plus.
