Lab Technician- Process Operations
Role Summary:
The PREP Lab Technician plays a vital role in supporting post-reactor extrusion and processing (PREP) operations within an R&D laboratory setting. This position is responsible for executing a diverse range of experiments, operating advanced compounding and analytical equipment, and providing precise, reliable experimental data to drive innovative product and process development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Experimental Execution & Testing
- Perform polymer testing and sample preparation according to standardized methods.
- Conduct compounding, extrusion, and fabrication trials (including injection molding, mixing, and compression) as outlined in PREP workflows.
- Support lab-scale process runs, modifying operational conditions under the direction of scientists and engineers.
2. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate a variety of laboratory processing and testing equipment, such as extruders, mixers (Haake, Banbury, Brabender), injection molding machines, and compression presses.
- Perform routine calibration, basic troubleshooting, and scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment functionality and accuracy.
- Maintain instruments within required quality and performance specifications.
3. Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting
- Accurately document experimental data and maintain organized laboratory records.
- Prepare summary reports and communicate results to researchers and stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Assist in data validation and quality control procedures to ensure data integrity.
4. Safety, Compliance & EH&S
- Consistently adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, PPE requirements, and environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) regulations.
- Participate in hazard assessments, assist with safe material handling, and ensure safe execution of experimental activities.
- Contribute to safety audits, risk assessments, and laboratory continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Collaboration & Coordination
- Work collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and other technicians to coordinate experiments and share findings.
- Support pre-run planning, post-run analysis, and workflow optimization within PREP activities.
- Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to facilitate smooth lab operations.
6. Continuous Improvement & Lab Operations
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance laboratory processes, testing methodologies, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with laboratory organization, inventory management, and general housekeeping to maintain a safe, clean, and productive environment.
- Contribute ideas to reduce turnaround time and improve overall lab productivity
