Job Title: Assembly Operator III

Location: Arden, NC 28704
Shift: Weekend Shift (Friday–Sunday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Pay Rate: $26.84/hour ($22.00 base + 22% shift differential)


Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Assembly Operator III to support the manufacturing of fiber optic components and cable assemblies. This role involves precision assembly, termination, and testing of fiber optic products in a cleanroom environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

This individual will also contribute to process improvements and support new product introduction (NPI) efforts, helping bring innovative optical products from concept to market.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, polish, and test fiber optic connectors and cable assemblies

  • Terminate single-fiber and multi-fiber optic cables

  • Package and label finished components per specifications

  • Operate fiber routers and perform over-molding processes as required

  • Support prototype, test builds, and pre-release NPI production

  • Measure components using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools

  • Complete production documentation to ensure product traceability

  • Perform EFG and IPC workmanship inspections

  • Inspect work using blueprints, job routers, and quality standards

  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic repairs

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in accordance with cleanroom standards

  • Follow all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures

  • Suggest and support process improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency

  • Communicate effectively with team members to meet production goals

  • Work with limited supervision after training period

  • Support overtime as needed to meet business demands

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred

  • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience required

  • Fiber optic manufacturing experience preferred

  • Familiarity with SAP Manufacturing systems and ISO 9001 standards preferred

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for delicate assembly work

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions

  • Experience using hand tools and microscopes preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset

  • Good time management and ability to multitask

  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing PPE (gown, gloves, hairnet, safety glasses, etc.)

  • Must be able to handle small, delicate components under a microscope

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (up to 75% of the time)

  • Ability to operate manufacturing equipment and move between workstations

  • Must be able to read and understand written instructions in English
