Job Title: Assembly Operator III
Shift: 2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Pay Rate: $24.20/hour ($22.00 base + 10% shift differential)
Location: Fairview, NC 28730
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Assembly Operator III to support fiber optic manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for assembling, terminating, and testing fiber optic cable assemblies, as well as supporting new product development and process improvements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-driven environment while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, polish, and test fiber optic cables and connectors
- Terminate single-fiber and multi-fiber cable assemblies
- Package finished fiber optic components
- Operate fiber routers and perform over-molding processes as needed
- Support prototype builds, product testing, and new product introduction (NPI) activities
- Measure components using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools
- Complete required documentation to ensure product traceability
- Perform workmanship inspections (EFG & IPC standards)
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and perform basic repairs
- Maintain cleanroom standards, including proper contamination control practices
- Follow work instructions, blueprints, and bills of materials accurately
- Inspect own work to ensure compliance with quality standards
- Assist with estimating process times and recommending process improvements
- Maintain organized work areas and adhere to all safety policies
- Communicate effectively with team members to meet production and quality goals
- Work with limited supervision after training period
- Support overtime as needed to meet production demands
Work Environment
- Cleanroom setting requiring full PPE (gown, hair net, gloves, safety glasses, shoe covers)
- Frequent use of microscopes and handling of small, delicate components
- Ability to stand or remain stationary for extended periods (up to 75% of the time)
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs
- Movement between workstations and operation of manufacturing equipment required
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED (preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience
- Understanding of manufacturing principles: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity
- Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
- Ability to read and follow written instructions in English
- Good time management and ability to handle multiple tasks
Preferred:
- Experience in fiber optic manufacturing
- Familiarity with SAP Manufacturing systems
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards
- Experience reading blueprints and using hand tools
