Principal Mechanical Engineer, Process Equipment
Are you ready to lead the design and delivery of world-class automated production equipment for advanced materials manufacturing? We’re seeking a hands-on Principal Mechanical Engineer to drive the design, build, and commissioning of custom machinery that enables next-generation production capabilities for the semiconductor and electronics industry. This is an outstanding opportunity for an innovative engineer who thrives at the intersection of mechanical design, automation, and process engineering—bringing concepts to reality on tight timelines and with exceptional attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and commission specialized equipment to automate new manufacturing processes for advanced materials.
- Develop mechanical machinery and components using CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and manage designs through a Product Data Management (PDM) system.
- Integrate structural, automation, safety, HMI, sensing, data acquisition, and monitoring elements for high-precision, high-reliability operations.
- Lead projects from problem statement to delivered solution, collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements, iterate designs, and manage resources.
- Own project schedules—accurately estimate timelines and resolve risks early to deliver on time.
- Evaluate, select, and validate subsystems and components for robustness and scalability.
- Rapidly design and launch pilot-scale equipment for process development.
- Respond to feedback and implement improvements for workflow efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Champion high standards for safety, organization, communication, and documentation.
- Mentor engineers and assembly technicians.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues in assemblies and machinery.
- Operate machinery (e.g., waterjets, mini-mills) for part fabrication and assist in general machining as needed.
- Excel in a dynamic startup or small company environment—embracing challenges, adapting, and driving continuous improvement.
Your Skills and Expertise:
- 8+ years of experience designing, building, and commissioning custom capital equipment in advanced materials, semiconductor packaging, battery, display, web converting, or similar high-tech environments.
- Proven track record developing first-of-a-kind equipment, from concept through production, with elegant solutions to complex problems.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise with FAT, SAT, and full equipment qualification.
- Skilled in building, testing, and troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Familiarity with 5S, design reviews, hazard analysis, and engineering controls for safe, reliable systems.
- Strong drive for continuous improvement in equipment and process performance.
- Proficient with CNC machining, hand tools, and power tools for assembly, debugging, and fixture fabrication.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary: $160,000 – $190,000/year
- Health, vision, and dental—75% paid for employees and dependents
- 4 weeks supplemental paid parental and family leave
- Unlimited paid time off and 14 paid holidays
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
