    Our substitute teachers, paraeducators, tutors, and support staff come from diverse walks of life. Some are former educators, others are professionals, retirees, or college students. Each one took a different path to begin working in our schools. Here are just a few of their inspiring stories.

    Evelyn Jennings Substitute TeacherEvelyn Jennings | Former Dean of Students and Child Development Director 
    As a substitute teacher, Evelyn Jennings loves the new experiences she has with her students each day. Shortly after substitute teaching, Evelyn’s involvement led to a significant improvement in 7th-grade math scores.     Terry & Dale Gallman | Retirees  Terry and Dale Gallman Substitute Teacher

    Terry and Dale Gallman are a married couple who substitute teach in retirement. Terry worked 31 years as a full-time teacher and wasn’t ready to stop doing the work she enjoyed. Dale is a retired engineer who wants to bring fun to learning and sees substitute teaching as an opportunity to give back.   Read more  

     

     

      Camil Fowler | Substitute Teacher  Camil Fowler Substitute Teacher

    Camil Fowler became a substitute teacher while attending college, allowing her to confirm her desire to go into teaching. She was able to get hired on as a full-time teacher thanks to her substitute teaching experience. As a result, Camil continues to make an impact that lasts.   Read more  


     Jane Abrams Substitute Teacher Jane Abrams | 2024 Substitute Educator of the Year - K-12 Substitute Teacher Jane Abrams had to retire early from being a teacher after experiencing a bad accident. After some time, she chose to return to the school system as a substitute since teaching provided her with joy and fulfillment.     Starting as a school cafeteria worker, Lucille Zeigler discovered her passion for helping students learn. Now, as a paraeducator, she wakes up excited every morning to teach students something new. Read more      


    Saira Zamarripa Substitute Teacher Saira Zamarripa | 2024 Substitute Educator of the Year - Pre-K Substitute Teacher

    Saira Zamarripa was seeking a consistent job that was also fun. Following in her mom’s footsteps, who worked as a Pre-K assistant for 11 years, Saira chose to become a substitute teacher. She loves making an impact and helping to change the perspective of students so that they enjoy school and want to learn.   Read more  


     Megan Mabry Substitute TeacherMegan Mabry | 2024 Substitute Educator of the Year - Support Staff

    Megan Mabry first started teaching as a substitute teacher and substitute support staff. She now works in the counseling office, where she helps children navigate daily challenges.
