A solid start: School-Based Academy.

Twice a year, we host a comprehensive, multi-session virtual training course to jumpstart a successful career in school-based therapy. Our School-based academy provides practical knowledge—whether you’re a brand-new practitioner, coming to schools from another clinical setting, or a returning therapist looking to refresh your skills.

The training is led by our Clinical Directors and includes discipline-specific breakout rooms with mentors who provide real-life examples and opportunities to share or ask questions.

Some of the topics include how to:

• Identify the key members and roles of the IEP team, describe the IEP process and documentation guidelines.
• Describe the differences between the clinical and educational models of service.
• Identify the process for referring students to special education and related
• Provide details regarding Special Education timelines and procedures.
• Identify different ways to document therapy treatment in a school-based setting.
• Understand multi-tiered support services.

The School-Based Academy sessions are intensive and interactive. Sessions run for several hours on multiple days over the course of a couple weeks. They can fulfill continuing education requirements.

Practical tools you can use immediately.

As we grow in our careers, we all have cases that challenge us in new ways. Our team continually creates resources, so you can learn about therapeutic interventions that are new or best practices we’ve tried with success.

These include online articles, one-sheets, or modules. We also host monthly meetings where we share real world examples of how we’re using or adapting strategies to our caseloads. 

The Capable Classroom™

You’ll have free access to our suite of Tier 1 and Tier 2 classroom-level and small-group interventions. These interactive games, instructional aides, and curated therapy experiences are tools you can implement yourself or (with approval of your clinical director) share with parents, teachers, and paraeducators to support the progress you are making in sessions. Here are just a few examples:

• Pencil Power™ Supplemental Handwriting Instruction Program: A 6-week or 12-week supplemental handwriting instruction program designed for K-2 students. The program provides opportunities to practice key pre-writing and writing skills.
• Power Moves Card Game: A matching game built for K-2 students that can also be modified for other age groups. It gives students a movement break or “brain break” during which they can strengthen their balance, coordination, and sensory motor skills.
• Artic Blast™: A 6- to 12-week program that’s designed for regular education students in need of extra articulation support for one or more speech sounds, as well as overall intelligibility.
• I Know What to Do! Card Game: A card game thoughtfully designed for students who may benefit from extra support in navigating social interactions. Throughout the game, students “match” the appropriate responses to a variety of challenging social scenarios.

Mentorship.

Your clinical director may not be from the same therapy discipline as you. For example, if you are a physical therapist, your director may be an occupational therapist.

That’s why we provide you with the opportunity for one-on-one mentorship with a licensed clinician with our network in the state where you work. Your partnership with a mentor is a less structured experience, meant to support you as a resource to ask more informal questions or troubleshoot challenging cases. Most people lean on mentors more during the first few months of a new job.
