Amida Abdallah, M.S. is a Behavior Support Specialist in Delaware state for Oberle Elementary School in the Christina School District. In addition to her Applied Behavior Analysis focus, she also holds a certification in CAST, Child Advocacy Studies. Amida is also a fieldwork student, working toward her BCBA certification and has been a great example of what self-advocacy looks like in practice - both to ensure she has the supports she needs and also that the students get the best support and engagement from the adults around them. She has been part of the Kelly Pediatric Therapy team since 2023.
What inspired you to be a therapist?
Growing up, I’ve always found human behavior fascinating and was curious about why people behaved the way they did, as well as how different experiences and environments shape behavior and outcomes.
Through my early work experience in diverse human service fields, I became more aware of how the supports children receive can shape their future. Those experiences sparked my passion for early intervention and supporting vulnerable children.
As a therapist, I have the opportunity to advocate for children, help them develop meaningful skills, and support them in reaching their full potential.
What do you like about being a school-based therapist?
I enjoy being a school-based therapist because it allows me to support students in the environment where they learn, grow, and develop every day. I value collaborating with teachers, special education teams, administrators, and other professionals to take a holistic approach to understanding student needs and creating effective supports.
I especially appreciate using a behavioral lens to understand what influences student behavior, reduce barriers to learning, and help students build skills that promote success across settings.
