School-based therapy: What to expect in the first 90 days.
Whether you are considering a role with Kelly Pediatric Therapy or just accepted the job offer, we want you to feel confident with your next steps.
We understand that new jobs bring a bit of chaos to your world for the first few days and weeks. It’s our job to set you up for success in working in a school envireonment.
Steps on the journey:
- Onboarding includes completing paperwork and training, getting to know our company, understanding the billing system, and more.
- Your clinical director and mentorship opportunities will help you feel confident and succeed in your new role.
- We prioritize professional development by providing free continuing education courses, resources, and specialized programs that foster growth.
Getting started with confidence.
Once you accept an offer from our recruiting team, it's time to start onboarding, which typically takes two to three weeks. During this time, you'll complete background checks, clearances, CPR training, and receive even more information about working with us, like billing procedures.
If you're joining as an occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, or physical therapist, you'll complete a one-hour training session. Our behavioral health roles require a paid three-hour clinical training.
Throughout onboarding, our credentialing support specialists will walk you through the process, check in, and answer any questions along the way.
Moving into your new role.
From your first day on the job through your first few months, your clinical director (CD) will be there to provide ongoing support. Your CD will introduce you to the district and help you transition into your new role with the tools and guidance you need for success. Although details may vary by location, here's an overview of what to expect:
- First day: Your CD will connect with you before your first day. Your CD will welcome you, show you around, and introduce you to key contacts, or make sure you know where to go and whom to connect with. The CD will also check in with you at the end of the day.
- First week: By the end of your first week, your CD will check in with you and your district for vital feedback. This is the perfect time to ask any questions, share how your transition is going, and discuss room for improvement.
- First month: As you approach your first month, your CD will continue to touch base and ensure things are going smoothly. These check-ins will eventually transition to monthly meetings as you settle in and continue developing your role.
Ongoing clinical specialty mentorship.
We ensure you're never navigating your career alone by providing mentorship opportunities within your clinical specialty. At the end of onboarding, you'll learn how to get in touch with a mentor.
Our mentors are seasoned clinicians who want to see you succeed. They know you’ll have many questions, especially during the first 90 days.
Here's how mentorship looks with us:
- Introduction and dedicated guidance: As soon as you complete onboarding, you'll connect with a discipline-specific mentor. You'll work together to decide on monthly check-ins or other meeting times that work best for both of you.
- Continued support: You can lean on a mentor who understands the day-to-day realities and unique aspects of your specialty.
- Access to professional solutions: Our mentors provide troubleshooting in challenging cases and share resources to improve your clinical skills and readiness. Professional development and career growth.
Professional development opportunities are available as soon as you get started, including continuing education units (CEUs) aligned with your specialty. Our experts offer board-approved curriculum on pediatric and school-based topics. We strive to provide at least half of your annual credit requirements for both related services and behavioral health providers.
The following opportunities are available:
- Monthly national meetings: These calls include presentations and discussions about therapeutic strategies. Every month, related service providers are offered an opportunity for CEU credits during one of these meetings.
- Monthly district meetings: You'll participate in monthly team meetings with your CD to discuss topics such as caseload management, troubleshooting cases, documentation, and more. Virtual and in-person options are available depending on your district.
- School-Based Academy: This live multi-session in-depth training is available twice a year (once in the fall and once in January). From documentation to clinical best practices, we aim to cover everything you need to know to get started in a school-based setting. Separate training is provided to related services and behavior therapists, so you can connect and learn from CDs and mentors within your specialty.
