Job Summary

The Welder Class 2 is a mid-level welding position responsible for welding prefabricated components and fabricating assemblies from blueprints. The position requires the ability to independently set up welding equipment, interpret fabrication drawings, inspect completed welds, and work safely within production and quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Weld prefabricated assemblies.
  

• Fabricate simple assemblies from blueprints.
  

• Set up welding machines independently for required processes and material thicknesses.
  

• Perform welding using applicable processes.
  

• Read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  

• Read and follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  

• Visually inspect completed welds for size, quality, and workmanship.
  

• Use fillet gauges to verify weld size.
  

• Use fabrication tools including tape measures, levels, squares, chalk lines, and angle finders.
  

• Use grinders, hammers, and other hand tools.
  

• Use job routers to accurately record production time.
  

• Work independently and follow production schedules.
  

• Communicate quality and production issues with Shop Leads.
  

• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  

• Operate within ISO 9001 quality-system requirements.
  

• Assist other production employees as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
  

• Minimum 2 years of welding experience in a work environment.
  

• Proficiency with:
  

  • GMAW / MIG
    

  • FCAW / Flux-Core
    

  • GTAW / TIG
    

  
  

• Experience welding mild steel.
  

• Ability to read and understand WPS documentation.
  

• Ability to read blueprints.
  

• Ability to read a tape measure and work with fractions.
  

• Ability to use fillet gauges and common fabrication tools.
  

• Strong safety awareness.
  

• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds when required.
